Six Stroke Roll
Accents book-end the doubles. A groove staple.

Big letter = full stroke · filled = accent. Notation reads as on a practice-pad sheet: accents marked >, slashed small notes are grace notes, z on the stem is a buzz. R rings higher than L, so you can hear the hands.

What it is
Accent, two doubles, accent: R L L R R L. The accents book-end the roll, and because it sits neatly in a sextuplet it is a favourite for fills and for moving between drums.
How to practise it
- Play the accents on the toms and the doubles on the snare to hear why fusion drummers love it.
- The two inner doubles must stay quiet. The rudiment is the contrast.
- Start where every stroke is deliberate, around 60–80 BPM, and only speed up when it feels boring. When it is clean, take it to the tempo trainer and let trainer mode climb from where you are.
