Double Stroke Open Roll
Two matched strokes per hand. The second note is the hard one.

What it is
Two strokes per hand, alternating: the open roll. The second stroke of each pair is the whole rudiment. It has to match the first in volume and spacing, which the rebound alone will not give you at slow tempos.
How to practise it
- Slow, the second stroke is a separate wrist stroke; fast, it becomes a controlled rebound. Practise both.
- Play it with accents on the first stroke, then on the second, to build control of both.
- Start where every stroke is deliberate, around 60–80 BPM, and only speed up when it feels boring. When it is clean, take it to the tempo trainer and let trainer mode climb from where you are.
