"Work up to it" opens the tempo trainer at 100 and climbs to 130 in steps of four every eight bars. Members get the climb; everyone gets the click. "Play the groove" opens the beat itself in the Groove Lab, as closely as a sixteenth grid can hold it.
What the drums do
A half-time shuffle with ghost notes and a hi-hat lift, the same family as Purdie's "Babylon Sisters" and Porcaro's "Rosanna", and the hardest of the three. The samba break in the middle goes to straight time on the timbales. The ghost notes are the part; without them it is just a shuffle.
Expert: Years of work. Play it at half speed and be proud.
