"Work up to it" opens the tempo trainer at 128 and climbs to 158 in steps of four every eight bars. Members get the climb; everyone gets the click. "Play the groove" opens the beat itself in the Groove Lab, as closely as a sixteenth grid can hold it.
What the drums do
Driving eighth notes on the hi-hat at a tempo that only feels fast once your right hand gets tired. The famous fill into the chorus is sixteenths across the snare and toms; the pre-chorus builds on the floor tom. Grohl played it himself after re-recording the album's drums.
Intermediate: Needs independence, a feel, or fills you have to learn.
