Arthur Dubois
Documented by Drum Faster
The French drummer who plays water. Acoustic drums fused with unconventional objects, Sensory Percussion sensors and electronic triggers — and a body of work built on the fact that a ringing chime lowered into water bends flat. One video passed three million views.

The point is not speed or weight, it is making sounds that do not otherwise exist. Sensory Percussion reads where on a head you strike and how hard, so a single drum becomes a whole instrument with strike position as a control. And the water genuinely is physics: it damps and loads a vibrating piece of metal, which bends the pitch — a pitch bend on a percussion instrument, which percussion does not normally have.
