Anderson .Paak

Documented by Drum Faster

The drummer who sings lead from behind the kit — and does it without the time moving. Church-trained, producer-minded, and responsible for the 1970s soul drumming on Silk Sonic that is far more studied than it sounds. DW Collector's, a Ludwig signature, and a very wide Sabian setup.

2021 — An Evening with Silk Sonic

A full-blooded 1970s soul record made without irony. The drum sound is period-correct rather than pastiche: soft kick, dry snare, heavy damping and a crisp hi-hat carrying the groove. "Leave the Door Open" won four Grammys.
