Gretsch USA & USA Custom

That Great Gretsch Sound at its source — the Brooklyn-recipe maple kits still built in Ridgeland.

The USA Custom is the kit people mean when they talk about That Great Gretsch Sound. Thin six-ply maple shells, 30-degree bearing edges and the silver-sealer interior Gretsch has used for generations add up to a drum that is warm and round with a fast, focused decay — the reason the range became the jazz standard and then quietly took over studios in every other genre.

In the Rig Vault it spans exactly that range: Taylor Hawkins' USA Custom on one side, Phil Collins' USA kits with concert toms on the other. Both rigs are documented below piece by piece, with links to who plays what and where to buy.
